The Time Traveling Explanation

I had just traveled from 1775 to Lissy's house in 2014 and I was anxious to update my blog. When I walked in I saw Samantha working in her sketchbook... she is such an awesome artist!
"Hey Sam! I'm so glad you're here! You are just the gal I was needing!" I told her as we embraced in a warm hug.
She replied by saying, "Oh terrific! You know I love to help a friend whenever I can!"
I went on to tell her that I was wanting to write our time traveling stories in my blog and I needed her help to explain how the time traveling actually works.
"So, Samantha, you were the first of us girls that time traveled to Lissy, right?"
"That's right. It was a day I will NEVER forget!" she exclaimed with a sentimental sigh.
"How about I brew you a nice comforting cup of tea and you can tell me all about your first time traveling story."
I poured the hot water into Samantha's favorite pink rose tea cup and fixed some triangle toasts for her, then came back to the couch were she was perched like an elegant lady.
She took one small sip, slowly inhaled and exhaled a deep breath, lowered her head, and closed her eyes as if to trace back the memories of the special event.

It was a hot Summer day in 1905. I was living with Uncle Gardner in New York City by that point and he was wanting a portrait painted of me in Central Park.
I had been standing still for the artist in the scorching sunlight and it was beginning to make me feel woozy. I asked Uncle Gardener if it would be ok for me to find some shade in the trees and cool off for a little bit. He was fine with that so I ran off to the shady wooded area. I was going to sit on the cool mossy shade under a large tree until I realized that particular tree was the most perfect climbing tree and that I could easily scale higher than I'd ever been up a tree. I love climbing trees and I just couldn't resist! I began climbing and climbing until I noticed a owl hole up a little higher. It was an unusually large owl hole and it appeared to be glowing from within the trunk of the tree. My curiosity urged me to climb higher. I finally reached the branch just below the hole and stood upon it. On my tippy-toes I could just about see inside the hole, but that is when the rotting tree bark surrounding the hole caved in against my body weight! I toppled into the hole and head over heel began falling deep into this massive tree! At first I was scared but then the golden light that was glowing in the trunk of the tree seemed to surround me like a warm hug; it felt as soft as velvety rose petals.
The next thing I knew I wasn't falling and I wasn't surrounded by glowing light or rose petals but beautiful clothing... I was in someone's wardrobe! I pushed the door open and was greeted by the most joy filled face of a little girl about my age. She clasped her hands together and said "I knew you would come!" She swiftly wrapped me in her arms and for some reason I felt like she and I had been friends forever, although I hadn't even learned her name yet. I knew I was safe and I knew that some how this little girl already loved me.

"It was Lissy wasn't it?" I interrupted Samantha excitedly.
"It was. " Samantha smiled back at me with a twinkle in her eye. She began to tell me more about how she and Lissy played together for hours and quickly became true best friends. She told me how she helped Lissy feel better when Lissy's grandfather passed away, and that they would stay up way past their bedtime telling stories. Samantha is lucky that she got to be with Lissy way back in the beginning when Lissy was only nine years old. They have a very special bond.

"Felicity do you want to tell your readers how the time traveling works?" Sam added.
"I do. Would you like to show them with me?"
"Oh yes, let's do!!" Samantha hopped up off the couch and ran to the old wardrobe. "This is the original wardrobe made by Lissy's daddy; the one I first time traveled through." she said proudly.
"It was the wardrobe I first time traveled through as well," I added.
Samantha explained on, "Yes we all used this wardrobe until things started getting scary for you in 1775 because of the Revolutionary War. That's when Lissy's father came up with a new design."
"That's right," I continued, "The colonies were rising in fear as the Patriots and Loyalist became more hostile towards one another. My parents were terrified for me and my siblings safety. Mother knew I could be safe if I was to stay with Lissy in the future and sent a letter to her asking if there was a way I could stay here. Lissy and her father worked together to design a new plan for a technologically advanced wardrobe. You see the original design allows us to travel through a magical tree to the future where we come out of our wardrobe in your present time... and we can walk back through to travel back to our past time period at any point and no time has past when we get back there. Daddy D, Lissy's daddy, designed it that way so that we could stay with Lissy as long as we wanted and our family and friends back home would not have to miss us or worry. So our past time stands still... frozen... while we are here in the present time. It works out pretty well... until I was needing my past time to continue on ticking by while I was in the present time safe from the war."
Samantha carried on with the explanation, "Fortunately Daddy D is a brilliant craftsman and inventor so he was able to change some hardware and make technological advances (after all it had been nearly 20 years since the he made the first wardrobe, it was time for an update.) and he was able to create a time traveling wardrobe that allows time to tick on in our past time period. Plus it also allows us to travel to different time periods! Show them Lissie!"
"So I can walk in the wardrobe and travel to say 1905....
....And come back to 2014 lickity-split with Samantha's clothes on!"
"Hey my dress looks pretty good on you Lissie!"
"Thanks!"
"But there is one catch," I exclaimed, "You can only travel back in time as far back as your past time period is, so that is where Kaya has the advantage, her time period is the farthest back in 1765. She and I have been able to see a lot more time periods than say Molly who can only time travel back to 1945."
Samantha took my hand and looked into my eyes and said, "But the best part about it is that whether we travel through the old original wardrobe or the new advanced wardrobe we all get to meet here in the same spot during the same time and be together no matter our differences. Our friendships mean so much to me, Felicity. I am so thankful for Daddy D"
"And Lissy!" I added, "Don't forget the magic is a three part effort."
"You're right Felicity. One part magical wooden fibers from nature, one part quality craftsmanship and innovation made up from Daddy D, and one part  Faith, Hope, and Love from Lissy's heart."
"With out that last part there would be no magic. We would never have been able to meet." I smiled back at Sam.
And now you know how we have all come together :)
